Universal has released the first images from Miami Vice ’85, Joseph Kosinski’s film version of the 1980s television series, as production got under way, Variety reported on Monday.
Michael B. Jordan plays Ricardo Tubbs and Austin Butler plays Sonny Crockett. Kosinski, who directed Top Gun: Maverick and F1, is working from a script by Dan Gilroy and produces with Dylan Clark.
The supporting cast includes Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, John Leguizamo, Walton Goggins and André Holland. The story draws on the original show’s pilot and first season, set in mid-1980s Miami.
The film is due in cinemas on 19 May 2028. The original NBC series ran from 1984 to 1989 and starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.
The title and lead casting were announced in April 2026.
